A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
