Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:
- Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
