Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer behind a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

This news arrives just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
