A 60-day journey through Australia is being halted in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a break. The vessel left without her and returned later that day after the personnel discovered the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive search operation found her body the subsequent day.

Authorities are examining the incident, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that travelers and personnel on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to organize the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated communication, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" prohibiting any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in Cairns upon its coming back.

Timeline of Incidents

The vessel initially left the Australian port on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the point of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Passengers on the vessel - who typically pay tens of thousands of currency to take part in the cruise - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the choice of trekking or snorkelling.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her family was "stunned and grieved that the vessel left the island after an scheduled excursion without my parent".

Through her comments, she characterized her mother as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a affiliate of a bushwalking club.
