England’s men’s team will initiate their 2028 European Championship campaign at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward qualification for a competition taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.

Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an England men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to host the national team for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.

The team are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, if they top the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tournament Launch and Demonstration

The qualification draw will be held in Belfast, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.
