New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. And again, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

New York police issued surveillance images Monday of a man sought in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate this season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
