Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with results like these.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
