Triple Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" knee injury while the Denver Nuggets fell 147-123 against the Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half during an unintentional contact with teammate Spencer Jones.
The other player landed on the foot of Jokic, and he instantly fell to the floor grabbing his knee.
The star, who leads the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to incurring the problem.
He will have an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the extent of the problem.
"Immediately, he knew something was wrong," commented Denver coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Any player who gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as important as Jokic. More information will come tomorrow."
"The team will adjust as a team. Clearly, currently, I'm focused primarily about him personally and the disappointment of experiencing an event like that."
